
Its been a few days since I posted anything. Not a whole lot exciting going on at the moment, at least not anything I can really talk about. I’ve recently been watching some DC Comic movies and shows with Embyr, mainly featuring Harley Quinn. While they can be rather dark, overall, most of them were pretty good. This coming weekend has me returning to my quarterly PathFinder game in the Legacy of Fire adventure path. I’m quite looking forward to playing Seliniea again and trying out new things she’s gained during her level up. I’m actually still undecided on one point and I’ll need to figure that out by Friday night.
You see, Seliniea just got to level 11, she’s a solar outer dragon custom class that is a mixture of a Paladin and an Oracle. She has access to the Oracle’s spell lists and the mysteries, as well as her curse, but for the most part she’s a paladin, rather tanky but lacking in the damage output. But oh boy, she can take it. With the Oracle’s life link ability, and a some extra feats picked up through leveling she can passively heal up to level targets for 5 HP + 3D6 every round on her turn from range. The catch, she takes 5 damage per target healed in this way. Then as a Paladin, she can lay on hands herself for 8D6+17 as a swift action, which means she still has her full turn to react to anything going on and can move, attack, use her breath weapon or anything else. She can keep the lifelink up as long as she is concious and do the lay on hands self healing ability 14 times a day. She doesn’t have to do it on herself either but if using it on others they don’t get +16 bonus and it takes up an action. Beyond that she still has two area of affect healing abilities she can use the first doing 9D6+1 to a thirty foot radius up to 12 times a day and the second doing 5d6+1 to a thirty foot radius up to 6 times a day., Any healing she receives herself is +2 per dice rolled. Combine all this with the fact she’s wearing full platemail armour and is just shy of 200 HP. She can take a fair bit of beating and soak up the damage from her friends.
Now as for her level 11 feat I’m leaning toward one that would allow me to take a different oracle revelation from any of them available instead of simply being limited to the ones normally available for life… Oh boy that’s a tough choice. There are so many good ones to choose from. Do I take one that lets me use my charisma bonus instead of my dex bonus for my armour and reflex saves? I’d probably need to change my armour if I do that because full plate has a max dex bonus of +3 where as if I grab that revelation my bonus would become +9… Do I really need that? I mean my AC is already 26 (28 with a shield). If I grab that ability it would only bump me up to 30. On a side note if I grab that ability I’d be at 25 AC if I don’t wear any armour or shield at all. I’ll still be taking damage regardless due to the life link effect with my party and armour won’t offer anything for that. Other abilities I could take would give me a flat armour bonus of +4 that would increase ever few levels I think that would put me at +6 if I took it. Another would let me use my charisma stat instead of my intelligence stat for all knowledge checks, which currently has no bonuses so that would be a hell of a bonus to those skills. Another lets me add that to perception and sense motive which currently have a negative. Yet another would allow me to take up to level people, so my whole party, with me on trips onto the border of the astral plane letting us move at a pace of up to 50 MPH, this compared to the something like 6 – 9 MPH I can travel with flying or like 1 – 2 I can do walking (I’m a tank… a slow moving tank). The other really tempting ability would be one that allows me at select levels to access to spells I could not ordinarily have access to. If I take that I’d immediately gain access to one spell on the sorcerer list of up to level 3, and a second of up to level 5. Now that has some fun potential too. While the party does already have a couple of sorcerers and a bard the ability to throw down something like a haste would definitely have advantages… I could however ignore the feat for revelations all together and grab something more themed to her race. I could work toward being able to gain starflight, I just need two other abilities and she’d literally be able to leave the planet and take the party with her. I could grab a draconic ability that would boost her charisma by 2 points which would put me up to 30 (+10!), or I could grab something that would let me add my charisma bonus to the damage of any attack I do that does fire damage, which, for a limited number of times per day could be every attack I do. This would boost her damage output significantly when she can make up to six attacks, but her hit chances aren’t that great. So… Where do I go from here? I’ve been struggling with the decision for a few days now and asked my party for their opinion but no one has replied as of yet. I think all of them have value… I’d welcome some opinions.
Update: So, after some thought and an extensive search of spells I’ve decided on the Eldritch Knowledge revelation allowing me to pick up a couple of Sorcerer spells. I still am open to suggestions. As I still have a few days to make up my mind.
